SENSIT AMLD

The SENSIT AMLD is an advanced vehicle methane detector that helps natural gas distribution and transmission operators conduct mobile leak surveys quickly, efficiently, and accurately. Its enhanced ethane sensitivity helps distinguish pipeline gas from other methane sources, reducing false positives and improving survey productivity. The AMLD includes the following features:

|     100 Times More Sensitive to Ethane, Less False Positives

|     Continuous, Faster Measurement Cycles at Survey Driving Speeds

|     Mid-IR Cavity Enhanced Absorption Spectroscopy

|     Parts Per Trillion Ethane

|     Parts Per Billion Methane

Introduction

The SENSIT AMLD is an advanced vehicle methane detector system designed for natural gas distribution and transmission operators. Built to survey pipeline networks at normal driving speeds, the AMLD uses an ultra-high-sensitivity analyzer to simultaneously measure methane at parts-per-billion (PPB) levels and ethane at parts-per-trillion (PPT) levels within the same sample cell. By analyzing both gases in real time, crews can quickly distinguish pipeline gas from other methane sources before leaving the vehicle.

When additional investigation is required, indications can be pinpointed using a SENSIT PMD 2, bar-holed, and graded as part of a complete leak survey workflow.

Standard Features

The AMLD combines advanced dual-gas detection with integrated hardware, software, and reporting tools to support efficient mobile leak surveys from detection through documentation.

  • Simultaneous methane and ethane measurement for real-time gas source identification
  • Enhanced ethane sensitivity compared to CRDS systems
  • Integrated weather station recording wind speed and direction for each indication
  • Utrecht algorithm for leak quantification and OGMP 2.0 Level 4 and Level 5 reporting
  • Real-time GPS mapping and data logging in GIS360 software
  • Startup in less than 120 seconds
  • Operates in temperatures from -4°F to 122°F and wind conditions up to Beaufort 6 (31 mph)
  • No mandatory software subscription and full ownership of survey data

The AMLD mounts within a standard 19-inch server rack for flexible installation across supported vehicle platforms. A trained technician can complete installation in less than four hours, minimizing vehicle downtime and helping utilities deploy mobile leak surveys quickly.

Discriminate Pipeline Gas From Other Methane Sources

Methane detected during a survey with the advanced vehicle methane detector is not always associated with a natural gas leak. Biogenic sources such as landfills, wastewater systems, and organic decomposition can produce methane with little or no ethane content. Natural gas, however, contains a characteristic methane-to-ethane ratio.

By measuring both gases simultaneously, the AMLD calculates this ratio in real time, allowing operators to identify thermogenic pipeline gas directly from the vehicle and focus resources on the indications that matter most.

  • Real-time methane-to-ethane ratio analysis
  • Identification of thermogenic pipeline gas during mobile surveys
  • Reduced investigation of non-pipeline methane sources
  • Enhanced ethane sensitivity for improved source discrimination

Survey Mapping, Reporting, and Data Export

The AMLD automatically logs survey data with GPS coordinates through GIS360 software, providing immediate visibility into survey coverage, indications, and gas source analysis. Data is captured as the survey occurs, eliminating the need for time-consuming post-processing.

Survey information can be exported for compliance, reporting, and integration into existing utility workflows.

  • Real-time GPS mapping and indication tracking
  • Coverage and leak indication documentation
  • Shapefile, CSV, PDF, and API export options
  • 4 Hz data logging rate
  • 30 GB onboard tablet storage
