Introduction
The SENSIT® ROM (Remote Odorant Monitor) is an advanced monitoring solution designed to accurately measure sulfur-based odorants used in natural gas distribution systems. Engineered for both permanent installations and scheduled monitoring applications, the SENSIT® ROM provides automated, reliable odorant analysis without the need for a gas carrier. Built around chromatographic technology and electrochemical sensing, the unit delivers consistent performance while simplifying the process of odorant monitoring across gas distribution networks.
Designed for utility operators, gas distribution companies, and industrial users, the SENSIT® ROM enables remote and local monitoring of common odorizing compounds such as tetrahydrothiophene (THT) and tertiary butyl mercaptan (TBM). The system can also detect and separate hydrogen concentrations up to 10% by volume in blended natural gas applications, making it a valuable tool for evolving gas infrastructure requirements.
The instrument is programmable for point measurements, periodic testing, and continuous monitoring sequences. With onboard data logging, remote communication options, and configurable reporting capabilities, the SENSIT® ROM helps operators maintain regulatory compliance, improve operational efficiency, and gain greater visibility into odorant levels throughout their gas systems.
Standard Features
The SENSIT® ROM includes a wide range of standard features designed to support accurate odorant measurement and dependable operation:
- Chromatographic odorant analysis without the use of a gas carrier
- Measurement of sulfur-based odorants including THT and TBM
- Compact design for easy transportation and deployment
- Available in both indoor (IP40) and outdoor (IP66) configurations
Remote Communication & Data Management
The SENSIT® ROM is designed to support both local and remote monitoring operations. Through its RS485 communication platform and ModBus RTU protocol, users can integrate odorant monitoring data into supervisory control systems and other operational networks. Infrared communication is standard, while Bluetooth communication is available as an optional enhancement.
The accompanying software allows users to:
- Download measurement and event data
- Generate reports
- Configure system settings
- View odorant concentration trends over time
- Analyze historical records and monitoring activity
By combining local operation with remote data accessibility, the SENSIT® ROM reduces site visits while providing operators with timely access to critical odorization information.
