ABOUT US
For more than 40 years, SENSIT has helped natural gas utilities, industry, fire departments and
emergency responders find gas leaks fast, confidently, and safely.
Protect Life, Property And The Environment From Hazardous Gases - Through Leak Detection
We do this by providing the people who protect our communities with dependable instruments and the support they need to do their jobs. Our customers’ businesses run on reliability; and so do we.
As part of Halma plc, a global group of life‑saving technology companies, we combine the responsiveness and agility of a smaller business with the stability, systems, and long‑term resilience that critical industries depend on.

SENSIT began with a straightforward mission: to make the detection of gas leaks easier, faster, and more reliable for the people on the front lines of safety. John & Nancy Kleppe founded J and N Enterprises, the original name of SENSIT, in March 1980.
The first product was the revolutionary GAS‑TRAC, developed through a joint effort between a major natural gas utility and the Illinois Institute of Technology.
From the GAS-TRAC to today’s more advanced detection technologies, our focus has never changed:
Looking ahead, we continue to invest in next‑generation sensing technologies, including metal oxide sensors and optical‑based absorption spectroscopy.
Our engineering teams take these sensors capable of detecting gas at parts‑per‑billion levels and integrate them into rugged, field‑ready instruments.
Our support teams then provide training and resources that help customers stay ready for whatever challenge they face.
We design and manufacture a full range of gas detection instruments, including combustible gas indicators (CGIs), multi‑gas detectors, methane‑specific detection tools, advanced gas leak survey technology and ambient air monitoring devices.
We detect micro-concentrations of invisible gas that you cannot see, smell or taste. Every SENSIT instrument is built for the field and is designed for:
Fast Detection
From trace‑levels of natural gas to life‑safety gases such as Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Sulfide.
Simplicity Under Pressure
Intuitive interfaces operable in gloves and extreme weather, clear visual readings and the SENSIT signature audible ‘tick’.
Impact‑resistant, battery‑powered handhelds or weather‑ready fixed‑point monitors with solar options for remote deployment.
Simple calibration, replaceable sensors and a fast repair service to minimize downtime.
Our Valparaiso, Indiana based manufacturing facility brings together precision assembly, sensor testing/calibration and rapid repair/service in an ISO 9001 approved quality system.
With decades of hands‑on experience working alongside utilities, fire services and emission monitoring customers our team understands regulatory environments, operational demands and the pressure of real incidents across shifts, geographies and environmental conditions.
Guided by our purpose, all our teams are customer service orientated staff to deliver responsive help that keeps your crews operational and confident.
We’re ready when you are.
