Keep Your Instruments Compliant, Calibrated, And
Field-Ready; Backed By The People Who Built Them.
SENSIT's gas detector repair service runs out of our factory in Valparaiso, Indiana. Filter and battery replacement, field calibration, bump testing, and sensor zeroing are user-serviceable. Sensor replacement, housing damage, and circuit board work need an authorized technician — UL 913, CSA, ATEX, and IECEx approvals hold only when authorized personnel do the work.
Why Service Pathways Matter For Hazardous-Location Instruments
A SENSIT gas detector certified for use in areas where gas is present carries certifications because every component and assembly step was reviewed by an external approval agency. Most of our instruments are designed and approved to UL 913 (intrinsically safe apparatus for use in Class I, II, and III, Division 1 hazardous locations), alongside other approvals such as CSA, ATEX, and IECEx schemes.
These approvals only apply to an instrument as built by SENSIT and as serviced by an authorized person. If an uncertified technician opens the enclosure to change a sensor or replace a component that could affect the intrinsically safe design and inadvertently impact the performance of the instrument.
Therefore, we're passionate about ensuring our instruments are correctly serviced and maintained during their life. We're here to help our customers achieve that.

Those who depend on an instrument's when they carry it into a potentially hazardous environment.
Whenever some performs a repair, all the instrument's functions need to remain working as intended.
Everyday use in the field can lead to wear and tear. Servicing can help you be proactive, not reactive.
Routine maintenance and field calibration by the user are part of normal instrument ownership. We cover these example tasks in standard product training, and they don't require sending an instrument back to the factory:
To protect the sensor technology, most of our instruments contain some type of hydrophobic and/or dust filter.
Whether it's the more traditional alkaline cells or our newer instruments with user-replaceable Li-Ion battery packs.
Using SENSIT approved calibration gases, calibration stations and associated adapters.
Routine Cleaning & Visual Inspection
Ensure inlets are clean & unobstructed. Look for signs of damage on the instrument and any associated probe accesories.
Many SENSIT instruments allow users to perform sensor zeroing in the field, helping maintain accuracy and optimal performance between calibrations.

We like to ensure users of our instruments have access to product training before they need to use the product. We deliver our standard product training three ways, so your team can pick what fits:
We have dedicated training facilities and can show you how the products are made.
It's common for us to send a trainer out, especially for larger fleets or new product rollouts.
Call our service department to schedule a session.
Available through SENSIT, ask our customer service team for links to related product videos.
If you're not sure whether a task is field-serviceable for your specific model, call before you open the instrument. A two-minute phone call can save you time and our service technicians want to help you be self-sufficient.

To keep instruments compliant, the following more complicated gas detector repair service is performed only by technicians that are certified by SENSIT:
Sensors are matched to the instrument's firmware, calibration curves, and intrinsic-safety design. Ensuring the replacement sensor is fitted is important. When a sensor is replaced, the instrument typically needs a calibration routine against reference gases and a functional verification - not a bump test or zero adjustment. When SENSIT fulfill a sensor replacement service out of our, we include a full recalibration, and a complete quality check.
Housings & Circuit Board Repair or Replacement
Damage from impacts, drops, water ingress, electrical faults, or component failure requires factory-level repair. Circuit boards inside intrinsically safe instruments include current-limiting and energy-storage components that are part of the safety design. These design features cannot be substituted or reworked by an unauthorized individual. Units that come back to Valparaiso for repair also undergo full functional testing.
Turnaround, Loaners & Logistics When Sending An Instrument In For Service
Our in-house calibration and repair team keeps over 13,000 devices field-ready every year. We measure turnaround in days, not weeks. However, for situations where you can't be without an instrument, ask about our loaner program when you submit your repair request.
Being Proactive, Not Reactive
Even when nothing's wrong, reviewing instruments at a regular cycle can catch drift, wear, and degradation before they cause a field failure. We do offer a service cadence to customers so together we can review fleet health. This can be done on-site at customers so talk to your SENSIT representative about this.
Note: There may be a charge for gas detector repair service performed by SENSIT outside the warranty period. We can quote any out-of-warranty work before starting and provide receipt of the unit at our facility.

We do not recommend or support unauthorized service technicians. After replacing a part like a sensor, the instrument requires a full calibration and functional verification to ensure it functions as intended.
External approvals and our warranty period apply to the instrument as built and as serviced by an authorized facility/person. Work performed by uncertified technicians places the certification status of that specific unit in question. Your safety auditor and SENSIT's service department can both confirm this for your fleet.
Most repairs ship back within days of arrival at our Valparaiso facility. Sensor lead times and times of high demand occasionally extend that window — we'll tell you up front if so.
Warranty repairs are typically no-charge; however, certain conditions or services—such as upgrades, consumable components, or damage caused by environmental factors (e.g., water, dirt, or misuse)—may incur charges as outlined in our service manual.
Out-of-warranty service is generally chargeable unless covered by an extended warranty or service agreement.
Loaners are available in limited situations for certain products. Requests can be considered if noted at the time of repair submission, but availability is not guaranteed.
