ABOUT US

Founded in the USA in 1980, established in Italy in 2018

Our purpose is simple: To protect life, property, and our environment from hazardous gases through leak detection.

SENSIT in Italy for the Europe, Asia, & Africa Markets

SENSIT opened its Italian headquarters in Bolzano in 2018 to support the development of the European, Asian, and African markets. Building on a legacy that began in 1980 in Valparaiso, Indiana (USA), SENSIT Italy combines international expertise with local engineering to develop advanced gas detection, methane emissions monitoring, and odorization analysis solutions for gas utilities and network operators.

In 2023, the company expanded its operations with a second facility in Rovereto, Italy, increasing production capacity and strengthening its research and development (R&D) activities. SENSIT’s growth is driven by two strategic pillars: technological innovation and strong partnerships with leading gas distribution companies. This integrated ecosystem — built on people, technologies, and partners — enables the company to deliver high-quality, field-proven solutions that meet the strict standards of regulated industries.

SENSIT operates in three core areas:

#1 . Gas leak detection
#2 . Methane emissions monitoring
#3 . Gas odorization

All technologies are designed for real-world field applications, supporting safe, efficient, and compliant operations in complex industrial environments.

Our Story & Mission

SENSIT began with a straightforward mission: to make the detection of gas leaks easier, faster, and more reliable for the people on the front lines of safety. John & Nancy Kleppe founded J and N Enterprises, the original name of SENSIT, in March 1980.

The first product was the revolutionary GAS‑TRAC, developed through a joint effort between a major natural gas utility and the Illinois Institute of Technology.

From the GAS-TRAC to today’s more advanced detection technologies, our focus has never changed:

#1 Deliver a product that field teams can trust especially when under pressure.
#2 Stand behind every instrument with service that keeps teams operational.

Looking ahead, we continue to invest in next‑generation sensing technologies, including metal oxide sensors and optical‑based absorption spectroscopy.

Our engineering teams take these sensors capable of detecting gas at parts‑per‑billion levels and integrate them into rugged, field‑ready instruments.

Our support teams then provide training and resources that help customers stay ready for whatever challenge they face.

We are part of the Halma Group, with a shared mission:

Growing a safer, cleaner, & healthier future for everyone, every day.

What We Do

Trusted Gas Detection Solutions

SENSIT develops advanced technologies and field-ready solutions to support gas utilities, infrastructure operators, and field teams in improving safety, operational continuity, regulatory compliance, and environmental performance.

Leak Detection:

Gas Concentration

Measurement

Leak Detection is essential for gas

infrastructure safety, environmental

protection and operational reliability.

Methane Emission:

Gas Flow Measurement

Methane emissions monitoring has become a key pillar of global climate strategies. Ethane acts as a unique “fingerprint,” allowing the distinction between natural gas leaks and emissions from other sources such as

landfills, wetlands, or biogenic activity.

Odorization:

Leak Recognition

in Gas Distribution

Odorization is a fundamental safety process in gas distribution infrastructure. Because methane is naturally odorless and colorless, specific odorants such as TBM and THT are precisely injected into the gas to enable immediate leak recognition by users and operators.

Partnerships

Research & Technology Partners

SENSIT collaborates with universities, research centers, and technology partners to develop advanced solutions for gas detection, methane emissions monitoring, and odorization analysis supporting gas utilities and network operators worldwide.

These partnerships strengthen our activities in applied research, industrial innovation, technology development, and knowledge transfer, contributing to the continuous evolution of our solutions for the gas industry.

REGULATION

The Market Driver

In the gas utility industry, regulations directly shape market evolution and operational standards. Utilities and network operators work in highly regulated environments where safety, emissions monitoring, and compliance require reliable technologies, verifiable data, and structured operational processes. Across Europe, evolving methane emissions regulations are introducing stricter requirements for continuous monitoring, emissions quantification, and leak reduction. As a result, gas operators increasingly need advanced technologies capable of supporting accurate, transparent, and field-ready monitoring activities.
